Livestock Production & Management

Department of Livestock Production and Management is imparting theoretical and practical instructions to undergraduate students as per Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education Degree Course Regulations of Veterinary Council of India. The department is also conducting postgraduate master (MVSc) and doctoral (PhD) degree program.

  1. Mandates/ objective of the department: Department has following mandate and objectives:
  • To provide quality teaching to the veterinary graduates by the dazzling faculty of the department
  • Development of state-of-art livestock management facilities and infrastructure for potential dairy animals and poultry birds
  • To carry out research in collaboration with different divisions, in the upstream areas of livestock production
  • To standardize the package of management practices and to demonstrate the state of the art dairy animal as well poultry production system to clients
  • To provide consultancy to the needy farmers and entrepreneurs for establishment of commercial dairy and poultry farms

2. Infrastructure of the department:

The department has well equipped laboratory facilities to impart quality practical training to under graduate students and research of post-graduate students as under:

  • Well-equipped undergraduate and postgraduate Laboratories
  • Animal demonstration units at Instructional Livestock Farm Complex Unit-I, II and Poultry Research &Training Centre
  • Departmental museum 
  • Fodder demonstration units at university premises as well as Chirori farm

a. Training organised:

  1. Skill development based training programme on the topic “Entrepreneurship training programme on Goat Production” under RKVY project during 02-06 March 2021 at PRTC, SVPUAT, Meerut.
  2. Skill development based training programme on the topic “Skill Development cum Poultry Entrepreneurship” under SC-SP Sub Plan of ICAR, New Delhi during18-22 March, 2021at PRTC, SVPUAT, Meerut.
  3. Skill development based training programme on the topic “Commercial pig farming” under SC-SP Sub Plan of ICAR, New Delhi during17-23 March 2021at COVAS, SVPUAT Meerut.

b. Lecture delivered

Faculty members are regularly delivering lectures in training programs organized in the college under different scheme. They also deliver lectures in KisanMela/Gosthi organized by University and Animal Husbandry department of Uttar Pradesh

c. Other

Faculties are attending Television program on DD Kisan/Radio talks on Akaswani to dissipate new technology to farmers and solve farmer’s problems.

 


Other activities

  • More than 1600 dairy farmers were guided for improved dairy, piggery, goatry and poultry farming through visits, telephones and extension programmes.
  • Participation in various scheduled meetings Board of Faculty and Academic Council.
  • Participation in periodical TRE based Dean and department level faculty meetings.
  • Participation in “Republic day”, "Independence Day", “Yoga day” etc. events celebration at university.
  • Faculty members are executed various additional assigned duties at university/college level, as and when required.
  • Participation in preparation/ publication of various Progress Reports.
  • Coordinated work with various government/private line departments i.e., Veterinary/Agriculture universities, Animal Husbandry department, ICAR institutes, CPDU Chandigarh, Banks  and University units like KVKs.
  • Organized skill development based training programmes for rural youth.

Existing facilities:

  1. Fully functional UG/PG labs for teaching and research purpose.
  2. Fully functional and technology driven (smart) class room for student.
  3. Lab-cum-Museum to display & demonstrate the technology.
  4. Fully functional ILFCs (Instructional Livestock Farm Complex) having popular breeds of Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep, Goat, Pig , Horse and poultry as TRE unit
  5. Round the clock advisory services for the livestock owners and skill development of Entrepreneurs in support of start-up schemes of state government and India govt., as well.
  6. Ongoing various research projects in the department.
